Do you consider video games to be nothing more than idle entertainment? Or do you see them as promoting brain rot, or, worse, encouraging violent or worse behavior? In this talk, Noah Lin encourages us to leave these common assumptions about video games behind. How, he asks, can a form of media that combines cinematography, psychology, creative writing, acting, computer programming, political and social commentary, huge bounds of technical innovation, and immersive and personal interactivity, not be called art? By walking us through some especially impactful games, Lin hopes his TEDx Talk will expand our horizons. Noah Lin is an aspiring soundtrack artist and a video game enthusiast. Video games have played an important role in his life since childhood, and over the last several years he has been enthusiastically playing and analyzing video games as works of art in their design, psychology and aesthetics. He has soundtracked multiple game jam submissions, immersed himself in the world of game design, and is excited to share his perspective through his TEDx Talk. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

  1. As a TEDX speaker whos spoken on the same topic, I completely agree with all your statements!

  2. I need this guy's email. I'm working on a research paper and I'd love to ask his opinion on a couple things.

  3. Great video, as a person who loves video games and hopes to make my own one day I feel this frustration. I'm so tried of this great medium being overlooked, belittled, and scapegoated for negative news. I have been touched by games since I was young, with the epic stories, themes, and of course the interaction with a imaginary world. There is true beauty in this virtual art and I hope every one can see that in the future because I'm going to do everything in my power to express it.

  4. Video games are the most innovative form of art. To disagree is a very narrow point of view. A lot of people refuse to participate in playing video games based on speculation and often misguided opinions. Which in most cases are proved wrong. My parents despise video games and yet they bought me multiple games consoles during my childhood. And now I buy them myself because I know there are incredible pieces of art waiting to be experienced.

  5. Im dissapointed. HOW DOES THIS GETS 800 VIEWWWSSSSSS!!!!!!!!.
